The Police said the suspects had published nude images and videos of their ex-lovers as retaliation leading up to or during the victims’ marriages.
A number of complaints have been filed claiming that nude images of women have been circulated on social media via mobile phones and computers by their ex-lovers.
Following investigations, a 26-year-old from Pita Kotte, a 26-year-old from Rajagiriya, a 23-year-old from Pujapitiya in Kandy, a 39-year-old in Piliyandala, and 31-year-old man in Gampaha were arrested in connection to the offence.
The Police said four of the suspects were arrested for publishing nude pictures and videos of their ex-lovers, while one suspect was arrested for hacking into the profile of a woman and posting pornographic related material.
The mobile phones and laptops used by the suspects to commit the crime have been taken into Police custody.
The Police said the incident has revealed a new trend used by suspects to retaliate at their ex-lovers.
They warned the public to refrain from acting in such a manner, adding that legal action will be taken against such suspects.
